Deciding to have pets would require humans to understand that they are not merely objects. They too have to be cared for similarly when we care for babies who can’t afford to fend for themselves. Having pets means feeding them with a nutritious diet, bathing them, exerting some time and effort to train them and taking them to the vet for a regular check up routine and vaccinations. Proper caring for pets means doing a number of things to ensure that they stay in a healthy state and in addition it also meant protecting them from a disease known as tick paralysis.

Obviously, tick paralysis is acquired from parasites known as ticks. They are present almost anywhere, in the park, or even in the woods if you live in an urban area. The chances for our pet dogs to host ticks are very high. Their floor-length fur and their natural love to explore the outdoors are just some of the factors that contribute to such.

Aside from the bothersome itching ticks carry a form of disease that can greatly affect your pets health adversely. The effects would not be visible from just one bite from ticks but rather numerous bites and then takes several weeks to cause paralysis. When your dog starts showing symptoms such as weakening and difficulty in mobilizing their back limbs it would be best to give them immediate veterinary care.

Another disease caused by ticks is the Lyme disease. These are induced by ticks that are usually found on deer. This is a very alarming condition since the symptoms may come undetected. For severe cases, this condition causes the dog’s kidney to cease or fail from functioning.

There are numerous medication that may be recommended to eliminate ticks for good. Some are even bought over-the-counter. They are usually applied once a month on your pet’s fur and can withstand your pet’s bathing and swimming regimen. This kind of treatment is recommendable for pets with extremely long and thick fur.

If your pet is under specific medication, old-aged or may even be pregnant or nursing, it is recommendable to seek your veterinarian for advice first to avoid further complications.

The simple truth is that you can avoid the life threatening effects to ticks by merely removing all of them. Practicing good hygiene for your dog is also the best way to protect them from acquiring ticks. Prevention is always better than cure. It would be wise to constantly check your pet’s coat every now and then to check for ticks. It is also a wise decision to use a dog shampoo that can protect them from hosting such parasites.

If you truly love your pets, these obligations would come naturally for you and won’t make you feel as though they are bothersome and forceful on your part. In return, dogs are truly a man’s best friend. They are very loyal to their owners and also shows their appreciation for the good deeds that have been bestowed upon them.
