When we speak of dog grooming it means providing attention for your pets hygiene through cleaning and enhancing their physical appearance as well for those that are usually entered into competitions. And your best friend when it comes to such need for your pets are called “dog groomer”.

Grooming you dogs is a very important aspect when it comes to dog care. The frequency of grooming would depend on the breed, age and health of your pets. Not all dogs would require a daily schedule of grooming but providing them of such on a regular schedule would definitely make them healthy and comfortable.

If your time would allow it then you can perform pet grooming yourself. Just remember these pointers and you’d never go wrong:

  • With daily grooming you would support a healthy growth of your pets skin and coat. There would be lesser chances for them to get infected with some common health and skin problems. You would be able to monitor if your pets have cuts or swelling and even a change in their behavior. These factors usually means symptoms of illnesses. Grooming your dog is another good way to bond.
  • There are various combs that you can use on your dogs to help loosen up the dirt, hair and help stimulate their skin to produce natural oils.
  • If you need to cut or trim your pets hair there are scissors and clippers you can use to remove the hair on particular areas on your pets. Shedding blade are ideal for removing dead hair for dogs with harsh coats but not for cutting.
  • For bathing, you can use a garden hose or a hand-held shower head. Usually it would take two baths to ensure that your dog is clean. It would not be that difficult to pursue them to bathe if you would use warm water. If your pet dog is heavily coated make sure that you have completely brushed it prior to bathing.
  • There are shampoos and conditioners that were formulated specifically for dogs. But some may come on too strong for your pets so it would be wise to dilute it with some water first especially if your dogs aren’t that dirty. Make sure to rinse the coat of your pets well since soap or shampoo remains would cause them skin irritation.

  • Dogs should be trimmed of their nails to maintain good health. If they would grow long they tend to curl or shape spirally. This would make walking painful for your pets and even cause infection if it would be long enough to pierce the paw pad. Cut your dogs nails on a monthly basis to avoid them from growing proportionately long which would make it difficult to cut and painful for your pets. If you can’t do the nail trimming you may take your pets to a groomer or even to the veterinarian.
  • Some pet owners even go through the extremes of colouring their pets hair, as well as the nails. There are also shops the sell dog clothes and other accessories.
