It is very natural for dogs to bark but growling too much that the neighbors find it too troublesome and a great nuisance is a different thing. Growling even at their owners or biting other people is a sign that there are something wrong with your pet dogs. In this light, many dogs have been sentenced to be put to sleep or given away particularly when it has already gotten out of hand. It is best to find out the root cause of such behavior to refrain your pets from undergoing such penalties.

First of all, when your pet growls or snaps it has to be addressed immediately through correcting them and letting them know that such act is not acceptable. Dogs do not have the ability to think like humans therefore should not be treated very similarly as well. You have to make them know and teach them to respond to the tone of your voice and not merely with the words that you say.

You can try to test this with your dog by saying the phrase “Bad dog, bad dog”. First try it out by using a friendly and cheerful tone and then try it again now forcing your mad or harsh tone. See how your dog has reacted to the both tones.

If your dog has growled or snapped at someone and you just merely use a questioning tone of what has gotten into them to perform such behavior they would not be able to understand what you have meant and would likely repeat the same. You should be able to let your dog know of how much you do not approve such conduct.

There are some dogs that are voice sensitive that even as simple as a harsh “no!” would do the trick. But there are also some that needs to be incorporated with other forms of measures.

Dogs have different characteristics and you should know what their limits are for to enable you from correcting them properly. If there are things that you do not approve of let him know but not by means of screaming or yelling. This would most likely confuse your pet. Aside from short words to reprimand them you can also use forms of body language such as instructing your hand like a claw and biting it into your dogs neck can make him figure out that you disapprove of their actions.

Remember that inflicting physical pain would not resort to anything even when it comes to animals. The goal here is to be able to set a path of communications.

You should be able to make the dog feel that you are the boss as they have a natural instinct to feel like they are on top and challenge anyone that they feel lower than their own. Letting them know who’s the boss would win you of his mind. The more your dog wins for most of the times the harder it gets to make him employ at your commands.
